In 2014, the name of the official match ball was selected by the public: Brazuca was selected with 70% of the total votes ahead of ‘Bossa Nova’ and ‘Carnavalesca’.
The design was inspired by Brazilian Culture and nature. Brazuca was the first ball with its own Twitter account – tweeting constantly on his journey to the World Cup. The ball had 2.76 million followers and sent over 640 tweets.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Brazuca was constructed using thermal bonding technology and had a bonded carcass and butyl bladder. The ball featured a new panel construction which utilized six interlocking geometrically identical panels.
The final match ball Brazuca Rio came in a special green and golden design.
