TELSTAR 18

The original match ball was inspired by the Telstar - the first official match ball adidas produced for the FIFA World Cup™. The ball combines the soccer heritage of adidas with future technologies. This was the first World Cup Ball with NFC technology. Every ball included an NFC (Near Field Communication) Chip - and was connective. Data could be exchanged with any NFC system so the customer could connect with fans world wide, take part in raffels or challanges and get various background information etc. The information on the chip was constantly updated.

The ball construction is “thermal bonded,” and has only 6 panels, but they are arranged in an entirely new shape and give the visual effect of having 32 panels, like the original Telstar from 1970.
